IMPT - The Institute of Maxillofacial Prosthetists and Technologists

IMPT came to us on recommendation. A specialist professional body in a niche, highly skilled corner of healthcare, and a brief that asked for more than the average website does.

A professional institute, with members, patients, and a serious clinical specialism to represent. IMPT is the Institute of Maxillofacial Prosthetists and Technologists, a registered charity that promotes study, practice and standards in maxillofacial prosthetics. The clinicians it represents rehabilitate patients after traumatic injury, cancer surgery or congenital defects, working alongside surgical specialists in one of the most highly skilled and least-known areas of healthcare science. The brief was clear from the start. The website couldn't just be a brochure. It needed to work for members as much as it worked for patients and the wider profession.

A specialism that few websites have had to represent. A platform that needed to do more than describe it.

The audience splits into three distinct groups, and the site has to serve each one well. Members and trainee Maxillofacial Prosthetists who need access to the journal, events, education resources, council updates, policies and the secure members area. Patients who arrive looking for information about what a prosthesis is, what happens in clinic, where to find one, and what support is available. And the wider profession, including surgical specialists and healthcare science colleagues, who use the site as a reference point for the field.

The design is calm, clinical and built around clarity rather than decoration. Considered typography, restrained imagery, and a structure that lets the information lead. The brand reads as a trusted professional body. Authoritative without being cold, accessible without being casual, and built to suit a subject that deserves a careful, considered tone.

Beyond the website itself, our relationship with IMPT extended into print. We have designed and produced editions of The Journal of Maxillofacial Prosthetics & Technology, the institute's peer-reviewed clinical publication that carries original research, case studies and abstracts from contributors across the UK and internationally. Working to the standards a clinical journal demands meant designing for editorial clarity, accurate reproduction of clinical photography, technical diagrams and detailed references, and a consistency of layout that reflects the seriousness of the work being published.

The site was scoped from the start to do real work for the institute, not just describe it. A dedicated patient area with FAQs and a glossary of terms to make a complex specialism accessible. A members login with a back-end interface for approving new members and managing accounts. A WordPress blog and RSS to keep the membership current. An embedded calendar for forthcoming meetings, training days and conferences. The institute's journal and newsletters structured for download and reference. Find-a-clinic mapping the hospitals across the UK that offer maxillofacial services. Council updates, policies, Assessment Interview Board information and patient leaflet templates all in one place. A long-standing relationship that spans web and print, and a body of work we're proud to have supported across both.
